Cotton Ball Painting Snowman Craft

Here’s a super fun snowman craft that I recently made with Goose and Belle! It was inspired by our love for cotton ball painting with a little Winter flair. I thought that the end result was adorable and the girls were very proud of their creations!

If you want to try this snowman craft with your little ones, here’s what we used:

  • full sheets of construction paper, one per child
  • white and black paint
  • cotton balls
  • clothespins
  • cotton swabs
  • gluesticks
  • small pieces of orange, black, and brown construction paper

I traced a small, medium, and large circle on each piece of construction paper to make the snowmen’s bodies, but you can freehand it if you like.

The first thing the girls did was use white paint to fill in their snowmen. Their “paintbrushes” are just cotton balls clipped onto clothespins. Be sure to check out my original post about cotton ball painting to see more!

After that, I had them dip cotton swabs in black paint to make eyes, a mouth, and buttons on their snowmen.

I’d already cut orange triangle noses, brown rectangle arms, black square hats, and black rectangle brims for the girls. I gave them all of the pieces and glue sticks so that they could stick everything on by themselves.

Can I just say how proud I was of Belle? Usually, when we do art projects I’ll give her the materials and she’ll just do her own thing. I’m all about creativity and self-expression so that’s fine, but this snowman craft was the first time she actually paid attention to my directions and made what I was hoping she’d make!

And I was completely hands off the whole time. She did all of the painting and gluing without any help. My baby has really turned into a little girl!cottonball painting, snowman craft, preschool crafts, toddler crafts

Not only did their snowmen come out really cute, but there were a few developmental benefits as well! They worked on shapes as we discussed the different parts of the snowmen, painting and gluing was awesome practice for their fine motor skills, and they exercised their listening ears by following the directions I gave them.

What are some other Winter crafts we should make? Tell me in the comments!

If you like easy crafts, tear art is perfect for any season or occasion! And if you’re getting your toddler ready for school, here’s a list of preschool skills to start working on now!

Talk to you soon!
