Happy February! A couple of weeks ago I shared on Instagram that we love making tear art! It’s awesome for busy mamas and teachers because it takes zero prep time and always comes out super cute!

To make tear art, all you need is construction paper and glue. Just have the kids grab scraps of paper, rip it into small pieces, and glue it together however you want!

In celebration of Valentine’s Day and a month of love, we made heart tear art with red, pink, and purple construction paper. I printed out big hearts for my girls and instructed them to glue their pieces of paper inside of the shape.

Tear art is great for any age! I’ve done it with toddlers up to second graders and they all loved it! The older kids can create some really intricate mosaics while the little one’s finished products are a bit more abstract (but totally precious and fridge-worthy).

Goose is 3 so she can do the whole thing totally independently. Belle is only 22 months so I’ll rip teeny tiny slits in the edges of her paper and she can finish tearing it. She loves doing the gluing by herself!

Tearing and gluing are awesome fine motor practice for children and I love that this craft allows for a ton of creativity. You can use tear art for any season or topic. Shapes, letters, numbers, holidays… Super easy with endless possibilities!
