The only thing better than healthy snacks are ones that you don’t have to make yourself! I am all about encouraging independence in young kids and I’m so glad that I’ve found a few things my 3-year-old can make by herself.
These snacks are great for when your kids have the munchies at home or if you’re packing snacks for an outing. Just have a few ingredients on hand (they don’t even need utensils) and they can do the rest!
All of these yummy snacks are made with Little Nut Peanut Butter. Both of my girls love the way this peanut butter tastes because it’s super smooth with just a hint of banana and coconut. They even just released a new berry flavor! I love the convenience because they’re individually packed into perfect little portions and are easy for both of my girls to use.
My favorite part of Little Nut Peanut Butter is the humanitarian effort behind it. 100% of the proceeds from Little Nut help Edesia feed children in vulnerable populations and end malnutrition worldwide. I hope that you support them as you try our healthy snack ideas!
Ants on a Log
Ants on a Log are an easy way to get kids to eat celery. They love that they’re “eating ants” and Goose asks if she can make this every time we have celery in the house!
Ingredients
- 1 Packet of Little Nut Peanut Butter
- 1 box of snack-sized Sunmaid Raisins
- 3-5 celery sticks
Instructions
- Squeeze a line of peanut butter down the middle of each celery stick.
- Place raisins on top of peanut butter in a line to make the ants.
- Eat it all up!
Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches
With only two ingredients, kids can quickly build this classic snack!
Ingredients
- 1 Packet of Little Nut Peanut Butter
- 6 Whole Wheat crackers
Instructions
- Squeeze a dollop of peanut butter onto 3 of the crackers.
- Place remaining 3 crackers on top of peanut butter to make sandwiches and press down gently.
- Enjoy!
Apple Nachos
Apple nachos are super fun to make and surprisingly not that messy to eat. The peanut butter works like a glue and holds everything together as you pick it up. The chocolate chips are optional, but they turn this healthy snack into a sweet treat!
Ingredients
- 1 Packet of Little Nut Peanut Butter
- 10 thin apple slices
- unsweetened shredded coconut
- sliced almonds
- 10 mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Arrange apple slices on a plate.
- Squeeze peanut butter across apple slices.
- Sprinkle shredded coconut, sliced almonds, and chocolate chips over the top.
- Dig in!

Hi Brandy! I’m a big fan of apple nachos. Drizzle a little caramel for a grown-up version!
We are massive peanut butter fans here to. I have yet to find something with it in that I don’t like. Love your healthy snack ideas.
Thank you, Philly! Peanut butter is great with so many things!
I love how each one has its own name! Kids would eat better with names like this! 🤗
Thanks, Alexis! I agree! Fun names definitely help!
I have never heard of little nut peanut butter! I am going to have to find some my daughter would absolutely love them!
Hi Sarah! Of course, I had to sample some myself and it’s really good! Super smooth so it’s easy for young kids to eat!
Saving this for my son in the future! These are all great options.
Thanks, Athena! Little Nut peanut butter is actually recommended for babies as young as 6 months. You can always introduce it alone before adding the other ingredients!
I really want to try the apple nachos! These all look like great snacks, and my daughter would love the ants on a log with the celery.
Hey Joanna! I’ve actually made a huge platter of apple nachos for a party and they were the first thing gone! So yummy!
My daughter loves peanut butter! These look like easy and fun snacks, thanks for sharing!
Hi Diana! You’re so welcome! I hope your daughter enjoys these!
I love letting my kids make their own food…and healthy snacks too!!!
Yes! It’s so fun encouraging them to try “cooking” by themselves!
I love the apple nacho idea! One thing we used to do for our kids when they were younger is set up a Montessori snack station in the kitchen so they could learn to prepare their own snacks. They loved it and so did we. Our kids gained so much confidence and self-sufficiency from those activities. As teenagers, they now love to be in the kitchen and help us cook.
Thanks, Grandi! A snack station sounds like an amazing idea! It’s such a big help when the kids are more self-sufficient!
yum! Too bad my oldest doesn’t like peanut butter. Maybe I should try this one, she might like that it’s slightly different flavour…
Hi Diana! The banana coconut flavor of this is awesome! Does your daughter like other nut butters? Like almond or cashew? I bet those would taste great, too!
hi taseena, thank you for sending a healthy recipe because my daughter has a scince activity to make a healthy snack and it sure does help
Hi Sibansi! I hope your daughter had a great time!
