I got such a positive reaction on social media from my post-it matching game that I wanted to share another fun learning activity! My girls have dubbed this “Bear Factory”, but “Color Sorting Game” works, too. Belle is 2 and Goose is 4 and this was a lot of fun for both of them!
In this activity, we work at a bear shipment center. Our job is to sort all of the bears into the correct boxes so that they can be mailed to children all over the world. You can change your plotline, but having a story definitely added to their excitement and interest!
We happen to have a box of counting bears, but you can use anything that you have multiple colors of. Blocks, crayons, puzzle pieces, crumpled balls of paper. Whatever you find will work!
I rolled tubes out of cardstock, wrote the different color words on index cards, and taped everything to the wall. Then I put small boxes at the bottom of the tubes for the bears to land in. The girls just have to grab one or two bears from a bigger box, go back over to the cards, and drop the bears down the corresponding tube!
They are both working on classification, but Belle is practicing recognizing and naming colors while Goose is learning to read the actual words. I encourage them to talk while they’re moving the bears around to help the concepts really stick.
Very simple to set up and such a blast for the kids. And although they can play happily together, Goose was occupied by herself long after I left the room!
To keep the color sorting game fresh, you can rearrange the color cards each round, add more colors, or give them a time limit so they have to work faster. I also want to use this tube setup to practice shapes with Belle. We have a bunch of pattern blocks that I think will work wonderfully. Can’t wait!

Talk to you soon!
